"Peatlands Plus"
The European Nature Trust, in partnership with Forest Carbon Limited,
is pioneering a unique carbon capture concept. The new company, called
Peatlands Plus, uses voluntary carbon market funding to protect and restore
badly damaged peatlands. The damage to peatlands was caused by the digging of
over 900,000 miles of drains in an attempt to dry out the soggy ground to extend
the grazing range of livestock and to improve the chances of establishing new
forests. As a consequence, millions of tonnes of CO2 escape annually, not to
mention the vast degradation of wild habitats.
Working in an exclusive arrangement with Crichton Carbon Centre, scientists
calculate the CO2 that will be captured by the restoration process. Industry is
then offered the chance to capture their unavoidable CO2 emissions through
this UK land-based project with huge sequestration benefits and significant
biodiversity gain.

Wild Carpathia Success

greeted with considerable acclaim, especially in Romania. This success has led
to the decision to proceed filming Wild Carpathia 2 and possibly 3 in early 2012.

but highlights the threats to this unique region, calling for urgent action. The
Travel Channel has scheduled to repeat Wild Carpathia on 16th, 17th and 20th
December; you can also purchase the DVD online from the Travel Channel
